Indianapolis police are expecting to get a fresh set of eyes on how they handle homicide cases, in hope of improving its clearance rates. The department was one of only a handful selected for the technical assistance project from the Police Executive Research Forum, through funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The group is expected to visit Indianapolis Tuesday through Thursday to look at the investigative processes for cases and identify areas where it can be improved.

15-year-old has been arrested after making a threat of violence directed at schools in southern Indiana. According to the New Albany Police Department, the arrest was in relation to a threatening social media post on Feb. 18. The threats targeted schools in both Floyd and Clark counties.
A shooting in South Bend left a teenager dead on Saturday night. The shooting happened around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Gladstone Ave. and Silver Lane. The victim, 17-year old Daekwon Tobar, died after being rushed to the hospital. Tobar is the third 17-year-old to have died so far this year in South Bend from gun violence.
Metro Police are investigating a fatal accident on the east side Saturday evening. Shortly before 7 p.m., police and medics were called to the 2500 block of North Shadeland Avenue on a report of a pedestrian struck.
A woman is injured after getting stuck on guy wires near downtown Saturday night. Just before 11 p.m., Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the accident which ended at the 700 block of East North Street.
Authorities say they found human remains after battling a fire in Tipton early Saturday morning. They were called to the blaze on the 1800 block of N CR 700 E around 4:15 a.m. and found the structure fully engulfed in flames, as well as partially collapsed.
A former sheriff’s deputy in southern Indiana has been sentenced to three years in prison on a child seduction charge. Daniel Greer was sentenced Wednesday after a Gibson County jury convicted him in January. He plans to appeal the conviction.
Kokomo police: Man arrested after holding woman against her will inside trailer
A dog died during a house fire on the near east side of Indianapolis early Friday morning. According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews were dispatched just before 4 a.m. to the 1900 block of Parker Avenue near Mass Ave and Rural Street.
A man is appearing in court Friday. Wayne Kubsch is being tried for a third time for a triple homicide back in 1998. Kubsch has already been charged twice in the murders of his wife, her ex-husband and his 10-year-old stepson in Mishawaka.
A semi driver is dead after an early morning crash on I-94 in LaPorte County. Police say just before 3 a.m. Friday, a semi driver lost one of his trailers near the exit for the U.S. 20 and U.S. 35 ramps. Moments later, another semi driver hit that detached trailer in the westbound lane, causing that semi driver's cab to roll over.

A 57-year-old man died late Thursday after being shot in northwest Indiana. James D. Franklin suffered a gunshot wound in the 4200 block of Kentucky Street in Gary, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
A driver on I-465 crashed his car and was shot in the neck after an altercation. Indiana State Police were originally dispatched to the area of eastbound I-465 and the southbound I-65 ramp for a reported vehicle crash around 11:50 p.m.
The Allen County coroner has identified the victim of a fatal two-vehicle collision. The crash happened around 8:00 Tuesday morning in the 14000 block of Indianapolis Road in Fort Wayne. One person died in the crash. The coroner identified the victim as Albert Drerup, 35 of Zanesville, Indiana. Drerup was a restrained driver involved in a crash with a second vehicle.
Police are investigating a fatal crash in Hendricks County. The crash occurred at US 40 and Miles Road, just west of Plainfield. The two-vehicle crash occurred around 7:40 a.m. Police say one person died and another was injured.
An officer-involved shooting in Wabash County left a Kokomo man dead Wednesday. Indiana State Police say the 29-year-old man was an alleged burglary suspect out of Huntington County. Officers from the Wabash County and Huntington County sheriff’s offices began investigating at about 4:20 p.m. after receiving a tip regarding the suspect’s location.
Two men have been arrested for allegedly creating and operating an illegal mountain bike trail inside Fort Harrison State Park. Michael Hufhand and Jed Kidwell, both 54, were charged with criminal mischief and trespassing after a warrant was served online.

A 56-year-old man was shot to death Friday night in northwest Indiana. Officers responded to a call of a person down about 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Van Buren Street and found Joseph Hegwood outside with apparent gunshot wounds, according to Gary police and the Lake County coroner’s office.
